 Birth › March 19, 1905 › Born in Mannheim  Death › September 1,1981 › Died in London

 Speer decided on an architectural career and went to school at: › Munich Institute of Technology › Berlin-Charlottenburg Institute  Gained architectural license in 1927.

 Speer was influenced to become a Nazi after hearing Hitler speak at a Berlin rally in  Soon, he joined the Nazi party officially in January of 1931.

 He impressed the Fuehrer by his talents in architecture.  The Fuehrer personally gave Speer assignments.  Later became Hitler’s personal architect.  Hitler and Speer developed a special relationships in which Hitler gave Speer: › Freedoms › Complete allegiance

 In 1942 Hitler was appointed as Minister of Armaments.  He considerably raised the production levels of the armaments.  Prolonged the war for at least a year and gave the Nazis more time with the mass murder of Jews, Russians, Gypsies and others.  He became a genius who kept the war machines functioning under the Allied blockade and bombardment.

 Nuremberg International Military Tribunal › Speer was found guilty for:  War crimes  Crimes against humanity  He was sentenced to twenty years in prison in 1946.

 Speer wrote the following books: › Erinnerungen › Inside the Third Reich › Spandau: The Secret Diaries

 After the war Speer and Hitler are no longer friends.  Speer began to refuse orders.  Speer even said he had planned to assassinate Hitler, however, it is said that he would probably not follow through with the plan.
