“Masque of The Red Death” 2a. Prince Prospero hides to protect himself from the contagious disease in his country.

“Masque of The Red Death” 2b. Life outside is full of death. People are dying quickly in 30 minutes. They are bleeding out of their pores, experiencing dizziness and sharp pains. Inside the castle people are living happily and not thinking about anything serious.

“Masque of The Red Death” 3a. It is an old abbey that is protected by strengthened the doors with welded bolts that were hammered shut. 3b. The Prince is selfish and also fearful of dying.

“Masque of The Red Death” 4a. The clock striking the hour reminds the dancers of their mortality and that their time is running out.

“Masque of The Red Death” 4b. Poe put the clock in the last room which could symbolize the end. Poe describes the pendulum swinging back and forth marking time passing. He personifies the clock as well.
