VIRTUAL INFORMATION AND KNOWLEDGE ENVIRONMENT FRAMEWORK IP-FP

VIKEF OVERVIEW 14 Partners Consortium + EC From 8 countries 5 Research Centres From Norway to Spain 3 Universities From Italy to Ireland 6 SMEs 36 months duration (April 1 st March 31 st 2007) 10 Mio. Euro budget person months effort

VIKEF OBJECTIVES 1.To develop an advanced software framework for enabling the integrated development of semantic-based Information, Content, and Knowledge (ICK) management systems. 2.To develop an exemplary sectoral KVC application solution based on this framework providing semantic-enabled community services for the scientific and for the business domain. 3.To provide semantic web solutions & technologies to stakeholders who can foster its future usage and adequate exploitation.

Work Package Structure 1st Review WP5: Representation & Management of Semantic Information WP2: Core VIKEF Infrastructure Development WP15: Dissemination and Exploitation WP6: Basic Semantic enabled Community services WP12: Project Management WP14: Training WP13: Project Assessment and Evaluation WP8: Context and Interoperability WP1: VIKEF Requirement Analysis WP10: Advanced Semantic enabled Community services WP11: 2 nd Integration Prototype “Smart Community Support” ISP-1ISP-2ISP-3 WP16: Demonstration WP9: Advanced Methods for Semi-automatic, semantic Content Annotation WP7: 1 st Integration Prototype “Smart Content Factory” WP3: Acquisition & Harmonization Support WP4: Basic Methods for Semi-automatic Content Annotation

VIKEF SCIENTIFIC OBJECTIVES SCIENTIFIC WORKPACKAGES (1) WP 1 – VIKEF Requirement Analysis Goal: Goal: to collect the requirements for the VIKEF Framework in close cooperation between the potential users of the framework and the scientific partners WP 2 – Core VIKEF Infrastructure Development Goal: Goal: Design and Development of a core infrastructure for the VIKE-Framework as a basis for the development and communication of the framework and for the sound integration WP 3 – Content and Knowledge Acquisition and Harmonization Support Goal: Goal: Development of components for the import and harmonization of the selected content and knowledge resources. WP 4 – Basic Methods for semi-automatic Content Annotation Goal: Goal: Development of components implementing basic functionality for the semi-automatic annotation of linguistic and multimedia content WP 5 – Representation and Management of Semantic Information Goal: Goal: The Development of an integrated component for the management of semantic information in the form of RDF models, and development of a component for taxonomies management

VIKEF SCIENTIFIC OBJECTIVES SCIENTIFIC WORKPACKAGES (2) WP6 – Basic semantic-enabled community services Goal: Goal: Development of a basic set of community services that reuse the semi-automatically extracted semantics to provide more effective and intelligent services to members of communities WP 7 - Integration Prototype “Smart Content Factory” Goal: Goal: to build up a “smart content factory” prototype that “produces” smart (enriched) content from business and scientific content WP 8 – Context and Interoperability Goal: Goal: Supporting semantic representation as well as context and interoperability in virtual information and knowledge environments WP 9 – Advanced Methods for semi-automatic, semantic Content Annotation Goal: Goal: The conceptualisation of foundational research (models & methods) and development of methods for the semantic annotation of textual and multimedia content WP 10 – Advanced semantic-enabled Community Services Goal: Goal: The Development of an advanced set of community services that fully reuse the semi-automatically extracted semantics to provide more effective and intelligent services to members of communities WP 11 – Integration Prototype “Smart Community Support” Goal: S Goal: Showcasing the virtual information and knowledge environments that are enabled by the flexible integration of the overall project results into the VIKEF

DISSEMINATION Objectives:  promote awareness raising  increase understanding of the VIKEF outcomes  foster the development of research activities Target audience:  The European scientific community  Standardization bodies in fields related to the scope of VIKEF  Software developers in the field of Knowledge based systems  Market actors and institutions in the Scientific Congress and Trade Fairs industries.
