Drish Water Management Unit Action Plan STATUS/IMPACTS Overall status8 RWB - 3 good, 5 poor. 0 lakes. Status elements Q score dictates overall status for 4 WBs. Phys Chemical is the driving element for 2 good WBs. Phys Chemical is moderate in 1 WB. Status for 1 good and 1 poor WB is extrapolated. Chemical Status not monitored. Possible Impacts - EPA Water Quality 2004 BLACK (TWOMILEBORRIS) – (SE_16_4109, Status 2009 – Moderate) - Only moderate ecological quality at both locations. (Q 3-4) CLOVER – (SE_16_2399, Status 2009 –Poor based on Q Score from 2006 at the upstream sampling site) - In 2008 only the downstream site was sampled and recorded as satisfactory, with good ecological quality (Q4). However, the upstream site was not sampled in 2008 to determine if there was any improvement, therefore overall status was assigned as Poor based on the 2006 Q score. DRISH – (SE_16_521, Status 2009 – Poor) - Unsatisfactory throughout with poor ecological quality and toxic influences (Q 3/0) inferred at one of the locations (Castletown Bridge). Deterioration since previous survey. (Q 3) PRESSURES/RISKS Nutrient sourcesMost TP is diffuse (97%) mainly from agriculture (77%), unsewered properties (13%) and forestry (5%). Point pressures 5 WWTPs: Glengoole, Gortnahoe, Littleton, Two-Mile Borris, Ballysloe. Tipperary Cheese Ltd S4 discharge license is ceased however a second application is due in Discharge to the Derheen Stream. A very large development at Turnpike, Thurles currently at Planning Stage will also require a S4 discharge license into the Derheen stream. 2 IPPCs: Mining Company, Fuel Company. 2 EPA Licensed Waste Facilities Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) and Industrial Discharges Littleton WWTP – at risk Two-Mile Borris WWTP – at risk 1 section 4 at risk relating to historical deterioration in d/s q value within 3km of outfall. 1 IPPC risk relating to insufficient existing and future assimilative capacity for BOD and nutrients and d/s Q value less than 4 within 3km of outfall. Quarries, Mines & Landfills There are 8 quarry located within the WMU. There are no landfills or quarries within the WMU. There are no waterbodies at risk. Agriculture There are 6 waterbodies at risk within the WMU from agriculture: SE_16_750, SE_16_1530, SE_16_970, SE_16_2745, SE_16_158 and SE_16_3521 On-site systems There are 1593 septic tanks in this WMU, none of them are posing a risk to water quality due to their density, location and unsuitable hydrogeological conditions. Forestry There are no waterbodies within the WMU at risk from Forestry. Dangerous substances There are no waterbodies at risk from dangerous substances within the WMU. Morphology There are no waterbodies at risk form morphology within the WMU. Abstractions There are no waterbodies at risk from abstraction within the WMU. Other There are no HMWB or AWB within the WMU. River status High Good Moderate Poor Bad Yet to be determined

Drish Water Management Unit Action Plan SELECTED ACTION PROGRAMME NB All relevant basic measures, general supplementary measures and SEA mitigation measures apply Point SourcesSee Action Table for WWTP at risk below. INDUSTRY – Investigate discharges at risk. Examine the terms of discharge authorisations to determine whether they require review for the purpose of compliance with water body objectives including protected area objectives and environmental quality standards. IPPC - IPPC Directive and additional measures to be considered. Diffuse SourcesAGRICULTURE – Good Agricultural Practice Regulations and Enforcement. OtherNone OBJECTIVES Restore/Protect water bodies Alternative Objectives Extended Deadlines – 5 water bodies with 2021 deadline 1 New Modification or Development – Proposed wind farm at Templetouhy HMWB/AWB - none FUTURE DEVELOPMENT Future Pressures and Developments Throughout the river basin management cycle future pressures and developments will need to be managed to ensure compliance with the objectives of the Water Framework Directive and the Programme of Measures will need to be developed to ensure issues associated with these new pressures are addressed. River Data This table outlines water body information including status and a breakdown of its elements, protected areas, objectives and timescales.
