Protected education time To help give you a structure for covering the GP curriculum To help you prepare for the AKT To help you prepare for being a GP To help you understand the challenges of general practice To facilitate peer & pastoral support To give you time to reflect & learn What is the purpose of these sessions?

The teaching programme runs from September to June with some breaks in the programme at Christmas and Easter If you are doing a GP Plus Post (ITP) you have protected study time on a Tuesday afternoon even when the sessions are not running

You need: To Pass a KNOWLEDGE exam (AKT) To be able to COMMUNICATE and DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE and CLINICAL MANAGEMENT (CSA exam) To FUNCTION as a GP in a GP SETTING (WPBA, MSF, PSQ, Audit, DOPS ….) and document acheivement of skills, competencies and curriculum coverage in the eportfolio The Path to Certification (CCT)

READ EVERYTHING ON THE RCGP WEBSITE! exam-overview/mrcgp-applied-knowledge-test-akt.aspx INCLUDES EXAM COMMENTS FROM EXAMINERS FROM PAST AKT EXAM SITTINGS THE AKT EXAM

3 hours (and 10 minutes from Oct 14) 200 Questions Pearson Vue Driving Test Centre 80% clinical medicine 10% critical appraisal and evidence based clinical practice 10% health informatics & administrative issues THE AKT EXAM

“ The AKT assesses higher order problem solving rather than just the simple recall of basic facts.”

Consider asking other trainees how they prepared – what websites or other resources? (Bearing in mind that different people learn in different ways)

Look on the College website and FAQ document Apply via the College website. Most sit in April/May but when you do it is up to you. Maximum 4 attempts (from 1/8/10). £489 (AiT rate) Discuss with your Educational Supervisor AKT DATES
