CER: Academic programs in four specialties of blindness and low vision education and rehabilitation Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) Vision Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) Low Vision Rehabilitation (LVR)

Commonalities to all 4 programs Graduate Master’s degrees and certificates Primarily online, distance education Summer, on-campus learning Full and part-time instruction Academic advisors Full to partial tuition scholarships for qualifying U.S. citizens through state and federal grants

Orientation and Mobility

Prepares professionals to teach persons who are blind or visually impaired skills for navigating in all environments.

O&M Receives coursework in: Techniques O&M for individuals with low vision Assessment Fieldwork and Internship Works with students of all ages, 1-1 instruction. Can work in schools, rehabilitation facilities, independent contracting.

Teacher of Children with Visual and Multiple Impairments

TVI Prepares teachers in the instruction of children who are blind or visually impaired, including those with multiple disabilities. Receive coursework in: Braille Instruction Assessment Assistive Technology Expanded Core Curriculum Teaching individuals with low vision Fieldwork and Internship Can work in specialized schools or as itinerant teachers in the public schools

Vision Rehabilitation Therapy

VRT Prepares professionals to provide comprehensive vision rehabilitation to adults who are blind or visually impaired.

VRT Can work with children and adults as well as geriatrics Generally works in rehabilitation center, client’s home, or schools. Teaches 1-1. Coursework includes: Braille Independent Living skills Assistive Technology Instruction of person with low vision Fieldwork and Internship

Low Vision Rehabilitation

LVRT Prepares professionals in rehabilitation, eye care, education and related fields to work effectively with persons who have low vision.

LVRT Works 1-1 with individuals of ages who have low vision. Works in specialized eye clinic with eye doctor, and social worker. Courses include: Low Vision Assessment and Intervention Low Vision Technology and Practice Managing and funding Low Vision Services Fieldwork, Internship and Independent Study
