Which animal is more likely to survive in Florida? Why? Click to get the answerClick to get the answer Which animal is more likely to survive in Alaska, a polar bear or a lizard? Why? Click to get the answer.Click to get the answer.

The polar bear would more likely survive in Alaska because his warm blood and thick fur insulates him from the cold weather. Return to presentation

The lizard would more likely survive in Florida because he is better adapted to the warmer climate.

Answer: 20 lizards 10 in the white space and 10 in the green. Most likely you were able to see the lizards on the white background much easier than you could the lizards on the green. Even though they were the same shape, size, and color, the lizards on the green side blended in better. That is because the animals on the green were camouflaged. Their body coloring blended in with the background making them much more difficult to see. This is one way animals hide from predators

Pretend you are a frog and you see this. What would you do?

Don’t worry it is only a butterfly. Many animals have patterns on their bodies which may trick other animals into believing they are something that they are not. Though it may look like a dangerous animal’s eyes watching out behind the leaves, it is really just a harmless butterfly. We call this mimicry, because the butterfly is pretending to be something that it is not. Another insect, the preying mantis, uses mimicry by looking like a harmless green branch on a tree. However, when small insects come by it attacks.

Why isn’t anyone eating this bright colored frog? The bright colors on this frog are easily seen by many predators. This would normally make it easy for the predator to eat him. However, many predators will leave him alone. Why?

This frog is poisonous. His bright coloring serves as a warning or a stop sign for potential predators. If an animal eats one of these frogs it will probably get really sick. It may survive, but it is not likely to make the same mistake of eating one of these frogs again. Warning Colors

How can the water buffalo make it across the river without getting eaten by the alligators?

If the water buffalo travel one at a time each one will be eaten and none will make it all the way across.

If the water buffalo travel in a large group some of the water buffalo will make it across. By traveling in groups animals can work together to help the greater good.
