Electronic Health Records: Healthcare System’s Common Trends Based on Cloud Computing Group 2: OU Jin FANG Ting

Outline  Brief Information about the EHR  Cloud Computing is used in Electronic Health Records System  Security Concerns of Electronic Health Records (Cloud Computing)  Possible Solutions of Security issue  Trend of Electronic Health Records System Used the Cloud Computing  Conclusion

Brief Information about the EHR  Define: The Electronic Health Record (EHR) is a longitudinal electronic record of patient health information generated by one or more encounters in any care delivery setting.

Brief Information about the EHR  Parties of EHR EHR Government Public people Technical institutions Medical institution

Brief Information about the EHR  Requirements of EHR Patient Safety Integration Customer Satisfaction Availability and scalability

Cloud Computing is used in Electronic Health Records System  Relationship:  One of the most highly publicized of these technologies is Cloud Computing.  Cloud Computing as “A style of computing where scalable and elastic IT-related capabilities are provided ‘as a service’ to customers using Internet Technologies”.  So, Internet-based cloud computing will play a key role in the capacity of meeting the demands of the new platform which EHR should supply.

Cloud Computing is used in Electronic Health Records System  Introduction of Cloud Computing

Security Concerns of Electronic Health Records (Cloud Computing)  Client Intruder: This kind of attackers breaks into the client computer.  Eavesdropper: This type of attacker is usually able to link communicating parties by means of addresses used by the communication media.  Curious insider or server intruder: This attacking is in possession of administrative privileges and thus has full access to log information as well as content data of the EHR system.

Possible Solutions of Security issue Solutions Introduction Authentication identities supplied by their senders Authorization providing access to resources only to users who are permitted to do so Confidentiality encryption (public key & private key) Firewalls ensure secured access to the healthcare cloud Extend ERP system implementing ERP software is a proven solution for running a business efficiently and effectively

Trend of Electronic Health Records System Used the Cloud Computing  Reducing the transmission of Cost of Healthcare There is an international trend of increasing healthcare costs due to the ageing population, increasing burden of chronic disease, and increasingly expensive care options, and wastage of resources through inappropriate, unnecessary or duplicated interventions.

Trend of Electronic Health Records System Used the Cloud Computing  Rewards Virtually any current EHR application can support more efficient and accurate collection, storage, analysis, and distribution of data than current manual operations.  Empowerment of e-health Providers and Consumers Lots of the electronic health services are confined to the providers servers with very little empowerment on the consumer side.

Trend of Electronic Health Records System Used the Cloud Computing  Providing Patient Safety Important diagnostic and therapeutic error rates are observed in all jurisdictions based on the previous IT developments.  Pain At present, available EHR applications rarely allow a seamless flow of data to a common database where multiple users – physicians, researchers, administrators, patients, and nursing stations – can convert data to information using a shared set of tools.

Conclusion  The Electronic Health Records is the typical system which used the cloud computing technology.  The whole big database hold by the “cloud” makes it more powerful than the input we ever used.  The cloud computing based EHR system will develop fast in the future.  It can bring the developing opportunities of people healthcare, in order to improve the life level around the world.
