  28% of Americans have a diagnosable psychiatric disorder in any given year; only half get care   Common issues include depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship issues, substance abuse   Of those who do get care, only half are seen by MH providers Prevalence of Mental Health Issues

Effective Strategies of Care   Evidence-based Practices (EBPs) for specific conditions; episodes of care   Medication management with nurse case management   Group education and therapy   Use of Peers for extended services

  Healthcare systems become overwhelmed with demand for MH care   Primary Care has become “de facto” MH treatment   Up to 70% of Primary Care visits are related to MH needs   Over 80% of psychotropic meds are prescribed by non-psychiatric medical providers The Problem

  Co-located MH and PC teams   Provide real-time MH services in PC clinics   Absorbs large portion of demand for MH but does not replace specialty MH services   PC staff gain proficiency in managing MH issues Solution: PCMHI
