Teaching Discipline: 4 th Grade History 1) Ms. Harriet Tubman, what qualities do you think a history teacher should possess in order to be successful? 2) Ms. Harriet Tubman, what skills does it take to be a superior leader, in the 21 st century, as you were? 3) Ms. Harriet Tubman, what does it take for students to be able to lobby for educational freedom just as you did?

 Tubman: I was successful at accomplishing my goals of bringing slaves to freedom because of my intrinsic qualities. Just like myself, teachers must have dedication, perseverance, and be self-disciplined. Teachers must show compassion for their students and show the students how to reach their goals. I believe this because teachers are caring, patient individuals who are dedicated to ensure the success of their students.

 Tubman: I found out through my missionary work that successful leaders must inhibit many qualities. Leaders must show responsibility, integrity, and optimism. Leaders must also be good decision makers. I found from first hand experience, the most important quality of a good leader is resilience. No matter what failures occur, a leader must always look towards the future. I believe these qualities are important because a leader can never give up and must always work towards achieving anticipated goals.

 Tubman: It doesn’t matter who your are, where you come from, or what color your skin is, anyone and everyone can lobby for educational freedoms, even students. It only takes one dedicated person to stand up for something they believe in and eventually others will stand up and follow. As long as you are persistent and stand your ground, you can make a difference in our world. I believe this because students must realize that they too can help change our world if they believe in themselves and support their mission.
