The Maryland Gazette Newspaper Sean Brennan

-The Maryland Gazette is an Annapolis based news paper with a relatively balanced political bias from the contents of the January 30, 1834 issue. -This issue and paper were chosen because I am from Maryland and wanted to know about the state in the early 19 th century. The year is random and the date is my birthday.

Publisher -Publisher Jonas Green creates this paper in Annapolis, MD

Government Affairs Government affairs are the bulk of the newspapers news covering two and one-half of the four pages provided. Petitions and prospective initiatives such as the example on the left are examples of this. Jonas Green, “Legislature of Maryland," The Maryland Gazette, January 30, /purl=&dyn=sig!2?sw_aep=carl22017

Headlines On the Third page (of four) the headlines outside of the government affairs of the State of Maryland are written about. News worthy stories such as major crimes or famous individuals coming into the area are posted in this section. Jonas Green, “an Accomplished Artist," The Maryland Gazette, January 30, url=&dyn=sig!2?sw_aep=carl22017

Advertisements Before the merchandise advertisements in the paper there is a list of notices for debtors who are owed money to collect of individuals who have deceased. Jonas Green, “Notice is Hereby Given," The Maryland Gazette, January 30, /purl=&dyn=sig!2?sw_aep=carl22017

Merchandise Advertisement The Advertisement section on the last page of the paper (page 4) provides the reader with information about the purchase of goods and the creation of new businesses. These advertisements range from the opening of a new store such as the example to the left shows, or the availability of new land or merchandise. Jonas Green, “New Boot & Shoe Factory," The Maryland Gazette, January 30, purl=&dyn=sig!2?sw_aep=carl22017
