“WHAT BAPTISM IS!”

There are things only Jesus can do!

John 14:12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”

Ever feed 5,000 with a few loaves of bread and fish?

Ever turn water into wine?

Ever walk on water?

Ever raise someone from the dead?

But there is one thing that Jesus did that you can do! You can be baptized like Jesus was!

Matthew 3:7-15 7 “But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, 'Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9 and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham…

…from these stones. 10 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you…

…with the Holy Spirit and fire …with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn;

…but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire …but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.’ 13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14 And John tried to prevent Him, saying, ‘I need to be baptized…

…by You, and are You coming to me …by You, and are You coming to me?’ 15 But Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.’ Then he allowed Him.”

You can be baptized like Jesus was! His baptism marked the beginning of His public ministry!

A Profession of Faith!

Mark 16:16 “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”

Ephesians 2:12 “...that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers…

Ephesians 2:12 “...from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.”

It is an Entry into Covenant!

An Illustration of Jesus in Us!

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 “For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures…

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 “…and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”

A Sign of Transformation! It is A Sign of Transformation!

A Demonstration of Obedience!

Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore…

…and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them…

…to observe all things that I have commanded you.”

It is an Act of Submission!

Baptism becomes a Symbol of all that Christ does in our life when we Trust Him as our Savior and Lord!

“WHAT BAPTISM IS!”
