Reasons to upgrade

Why do organisations need to upgrade? Changing regulatory and legal frameworks impacts on organisations. The way they interpret legislation, regulatory frameworks, determines the content of internal policy. e.g laws governing illegal file sharing have led to most organisations banning P2P file sharing.

CRB - check for people working with children and vulnerable adults (regularly updated) Single Equality act-Equality of opportunity October 2010 – raising of the minimum wage. PAT – making sure equipment is regularly tested for safety Disability discrimination Act (DDA) 2005- requires organisations to provide suitable equipment for employees who have a disability.

Keeping up with competitors Competition at a global level is intense. Traditional supermarkets – online shopping Royal mail – e-mail Enhanced business opportunities – set up for low cost – go between by brokering Increased globalisation – increased access and speed to the internet – organisations need to make sure they exploit the benefits of technology while not reducing quality.

Outsourcing means paying a third party to provide a service that would normally be performed by a member of staff employed directly by the organisation for example an IT technician. Outsourcing to provide technical support for an organisation might prove to be more cost effective than running an IT department. Geo-sourcing – call centres in India

Improving customer service is a vital part of maintaining a profitable organisation. Manufactured and delivered in a shorter lead time = happy customer. An organisation must continually strive to improve customer service
