Nonword repetition: effects of item length and complexity Carolyn McGettigan Frank Eisner Chloe Marshall Sophie Scott

Paradigm Delayed nonword repetition Two factors: –Phonotactic complexity (zero vs. two consonant clusters) –Length (2 vs. 4 syllables) Length Complexity

Procedure l perceptionrehearsalproduction scan TR = 13 sec Acquisition time (whole brain) = 3 sec 40 trials from each condition + 40 silent baseline trials 200 trials + T1-weighted structural scan TOTAL TIME IN SCANNER = 55 mins approx

Analysis & Predictions Complexity Length Figure from Jacquemot & Scott (2006) 16 participants Analysis in SPM Group effects of Length and Complexity Individual differences Markers of dyslexia (phonological memory, naming, spoonerisms)
