Partner Share Discuss how does an artist use music to inspire others? What did you discuss about music as an inspiration? What kind of music do you like most?

Let’s Talk About How do the musicians in a symphony create a powerful sound? How do we know this teenager’s melody will reach many others? In what ways might each band member inspire others? How do artists inspire people with their music?

Main Idea The most important idea that the author wants to get across Smaller pieces of information that support, explain, or tell more about the main idea are called details In “Aretha: An American Queen” let’s read the first paragraph. The second and third sentences seem close to the main idea.

“Aretha: An American Queen” Finish reading the story. Use the graphic organizer to summarize the main idea and details of the passage Now that you have finished the story, let’s talk about it’s text structure.

“Aretha: An American Queen” The second paragraph tells when and where Franklin was born. The next tells about her early teens. The fourth paragraph tells what happened after she turned eighteen. The last paragraph is about 1987. So, what text structure is this written in? Sequential, cause and effect, or compare and contrast?
