Manipulations Setting can be used to manipulate the reader’s thoughts about characters!! Setting can also express a tone, or attitude toward a subject or object by the author. In turn, the tone sets the mood of the story.

What Does That Mean?? TONE TONE A literary technique which encompasses the author’s attitude toward the subject Tone is set by the setting, choice of vocabulary and other details.
