Comparison of flap thickness results using M2 130 micron flap and one use plus 100 micron flap Ahmed El-Massry M.D. Ophthalmology Department Alexandria University Egypt Ahmed El-Massry M.D. Ophthalmology Department Alexandria University Egypt

Financial interest Moria paid the travel expenses of this meeting

Purpose To compare between the visual results, flap integrity and incidence of complications of lasik using the standard 130 micron thickness flap using the M2 microkeratome and using the One Use Plus microkeratome with 100 micron flap thickness.

OUP 100 Microkeratome This is a new Microkeratome that was invented by Moria giving 100 micron thickness flap with a nasal hinge

Study design One hundred eyes were subjected to laser ablation and were divided into two groups: Group 1 :lasik was done using the M2 Microkeratome creating a flap thickness 130 microns. Microkeratome creating a flap thickness 130 microns. Group 2: Lasik was done using the 100 microns flap thickness using the OUP Microkeratome.

FOR LASIK USING OUP100

Results The demographic data for both groups were statistically insignificant regarding : - Age - Sex - Preoperative pachymetry. - Postoperative BCVA, day 1, one week, one month, and three months postoperatively

RESULTS (cont.) Flap thicknes quality of 100 micron is as good as 130 micron with less microstriae incidence in the 100 micron flap and more adherent to the bed with less postoperative edema and no DLK in either groups

Results (cont) There is no statistically significant difference between both techniques as regards patients pain or stability of flap postoperatively.

Conclusions 100 micron flap thickness is a safe technique with good flap creation that has it own indications like thin corneas

Take Home Message Both lasik 130 micron flap and Lasik using OUP 100 Microkeratome are safe techniques

Thank you
