The country that I am doing is Argentina. It is located in Southern South America, bordering the South Atlantic Ocean, between Chile and Uruguay. Argentina is the second largest country in South America in area and in population. Only Brazil covers a greater area and has more people. Argentina has a long, tapered shape and occupies most of the southern part of South America. It extends from the Bolivian Chaco in the north to the Beagle Channel in the south.

It has a population of 36, 737, 664. The capital city of Argentina is Buenos Aires. The languages spoken there are: Spanish (official), English, Italian, German and French. Roman Catholic, Protestant and Jewish are the main religions that are found in this country. They also have a Republic Government.

The first European explores, Juan Diaz de Solis, Ferdinand Megellan and Sebastian Cabot arrived in the early 16th century. Buenos Aires was founded in 1536, abandoned after attacks from indigenous people and it was then refounded in Argentina continued to suffer political instability and military coups. It belatedly entered World War 2 (1945) on the allied side after four years. Colonization of the region was begun in 1535 by the Spanish soldier Pedro de Mendoza.

Argentina has a mild climate. The north has the highest temperatures, and the south the lowest. Argentina lies south of the equator, therefore, haivng oppoiste of Northern Hemisphere. Summer lasts from late December to late March, and winter from late June to late September. January temperatures average about 27 degrees in the north and 16 degrees to the far south. Rainfall is plentiful in northeastern Argentina but decreases towards the west and south. Winds from the Atlantic and Pacific oceans affect the climate. Moist air from the Atlantic can make summers very humid. Winds from the Pacific lose most of their moisture over the Andes Mountains.

Argentina is bounded on the north by Bolivia and Paraguay. This country occupies most of the sourthern portion of the continent of South America and is somewhat triangular in shape. Argentina claims a total of 2, 808, 602 square km. The geographic coordinates are S, W.

Argentina benefits from rich natural resources, a highly literate population, an export-oriented agricultral sector, and a diversified industrial base. When President Carlos MENEM took office in 1989, the country had piled up huge external debts, it had reached 200% per month.

In 1995, the Mexican peso crisis produced capital flight, the loss of banking system depoists, and a severe, but short-lived, recession; a series of reforms to bolster the domestic banking system followed. Real GDP growth recovered strongly, reaching 8% in 1997.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for taking your time here today to listen to what I have to say. The End
