RED FLAG “Training the world’s best to be better!” Threat Update: 27 Sep 2008 Mass Brief Day-9 Mission-1

Pol/Mil Situation Iriand forces are on high alert but have made no overt moves indicating direct military ground or air force support. Iriand continues to provide Syrdonia with AWACS and intel services. Continued direct air support of BLUFOR ground forces & counter attack by coalition air forces is bolstering the moral and continued combat effectiveness of the beleaguered coalition ground forces on the north west frontier. Simultaneous coalition airstrikes against Syrdonian SAM’s & airbases as well as aggressive fighter sweeps seem to have taken away or at less stalled initial Syrdonian initiative. The overall situation appears to be stabilizing after the initially dazzling Syrdonian offensive. Some Syrdonian ground forces units on the NW border area have been forced to retreat back into syrdonian territory while others continue to hold the significant gains made into Kurekstan territory during their initial offensive push.

Pol/Mil Situation Heavy action in the SW border area have resulted in multiple engagements between Syrdonian and Coalition forces. China Lake has been taken by coalition ground forces and retaken by Syrdonian ground forces over the last 10 hours. Syrdonian special forces mostly comprised of Syrdonian Ninja are reported to have been involved in the re-taking of this important Syrdonian air force base. Enano terrorist units are also reported to have been heavily engaged in cross border raids. There have been several reliable reports of Ninja and Enano units sighted deep inside Kurekstani territory. According to the intel that has been gathered it seems likely that they are heading toward the Nellis & Indian Springs AFB area. Two separate two ship flights of B-1B’s have been lost to enemy aircraft during the last 10 hours of combat operations, for a total loss of 4 aircraft. At least one other HVA, a coalition KC-135 Tanker, has been lost to enemy action since the start of combat ops.

Downed Aircrew - Contact SAR on broadcast - Set SAR CAP and be ready to give intel to SAR forces

Impact on JFACC Objectives 1. Locate and eliminate enemy biological and chemical delivery capability 2. Locate and eliminate enemy biological and chemical storage and production capability 3. Gain/maintain air superiority up to 50 miles west of Syrdonian/Kurekstan border 4. Render enemy national and military command, control, and communication infrastructure ineffective 5. Render enemy forward ground forces combat ineffective 6. Eliminate/Significantly degrade, by at least %50, enemy long-term offensive capability

Ground Picture Indigenous AAA (23mm) and MANPADs (SA-14, 15, 16) Indigenous AAA (23mm) and MANPADs (SA-14, 15, 16) No change in FEBA in last 4 hours No change in FEBA in last 4 hours

Air Picture Known Potential Air Threat Aircraft: Su-27/30, MiG-29 A&S, MiG-23, MiG- 21, Mi-8, Mi-24 Enemy air activity is increasing, especially in regards to CAS and DCA/CAP. The Syrdonian AF is known to have been holding their most experienced units/pilots in reserve. From recent encounters and Coalition aircrew feedback during debrief it seems that these experienced & elite units/pilots have now been unleashed. Syrdonia’s elite F-14A squadrons have thus far been absent in the air battle. Intel reports that these units have probably been green lighted to join in active combat ops. Brief the possibility of encountering Syrdonian F- 14A aircraft and ensure this aircrafts capabilities and likely tactics are thoroughly hit on. Expect more advanced & more aggressive tactics when engaging all enemy fighter aircraft, but especially the Su-27/30, MiG-29A/S, F-14A & MiG-23 which Syrdonia’s elite units fly.
