STRATEGIES THE “HOW” “The Teacher’s Playground” “The Path to your Destination” “The topic of endless professions development initiatives” “The opportunity to use the greatest number of quotation marks!” (Just kidding. That is all me.)

STRATEGIES MUST BE TIED TO AN OUTCOME!!! (This is the most important thing to remember, so I will say it twice.) TIED TO AN OUTCOME!!!! TIED TO AN OUTCOME!!! (Ok, three times. Now, why is that so important? Ideas?)

GOOD STRATEGIES Consider various learning modalities. KINESTHETIC AURAL VISUAL Which one are you? Which do you use most often in your teaching?

STRATEGY BRAINSTORM OUTCOME: Students will play with rhythmic integrity and steady internal time. HOW will you teach this?

WHEN DESIGNING STRATEGIES…. Who and what do you need to think about? Consider: The Outcome, lower level student, introverts, dominating students, advanced learners, different sections of students, etc…

THE LONG AND SHORT of it

Putting it together As you write your plan, think about how you will scaffold your strategy. Give detailed steps. Imagine different scenarios.

BIG STRATEGY IMPLICATIONS Latest School Initiatives Classroom Management Student Engagement/Motivation Differentiation Others…

STRATEGY FAILS What do you do when something doesn’t really work? Remember: MESSY IS OK WHERE WAS THE BREAKDOWN? REFLECT—DON’T GIVE UP TRY AGAIN—tomorrow, next week…

INTRODUCING THE PIECE YOUR MOST IMPORTANT STRATEGY! YOU CAN’T REDO THIS ONE. FIRST IMPRESSIONS MATTER!

You don’t always need to start at the very beginning. It is not always a very good place to start.
