Centres playing a potentially important role in global health research: The National Research Center on Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NAFKAM) The Centre for International Health (SIH) is a common initiative with the University Hospital North Norway (UNN) with the main objectives to coordinate international activities and to develop international competencies within these two institutions. Tromsø Mine Victim Resource Center

Centre for International Health Multi disciplinary research Experience from multi disciplinary research, e.g. collaboration between UiTø, UNN and the Norwegian College of Fishery Science; MARIBO.

Centre for International Health Organ based teaching Organ based teaching in medicine and our new and exciting concept in odontology are sought after competencies in several third world countries. We are engaged at the Eastern University, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, after a request from the university.

Centre for International Health The Tromsø Study Now in it’s fifth version this represents a substantial resource as a model in future global research.

Centre for International Health Centre for Peace Studies An important resource to develop sustainable projects in the third world.

Centre for International Health SOS/STD/STI/HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases Department of Microbiology and Virology, UiTø, and Department of Microbiology, UNN, share the following interests and targets: Resistance surveillance (National centre of competence: NORM (surveillance of resistance bacteria and viruses)) Resistance mechanisms ((National centre of competence: detection and characterization of resistance microbes) The departments have worked on mechanisms of antibacterial and antiviral peptides. Competencies in bacterial and viral resistance could be a contribution to global health research in SOS/STD/STI/HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases.
