SGS SIXTH FORM TASTER DAYS 1 ST AND 2 ND JULY 2015 “Gives academically able year 11 students a chance to visit the Sixth Form for a taste of what it would be like to study at here”.

WELCOME WHY SIXTH FORM? WHY SGS? I started SGS in Year 7 so I knew the structure of a typical day, the teachers and the ways of learning so I felt comfortable with everything and everyone but more than that, when I joined the Sixth Form I saw how well my peers accepted the external students and how quickly they became part of our SGS family” – Emma, Yr12 internal. “The school offered the subjects that I wanted to do and I knew a few people that were coming here” – Milli, Yr12 external I decided on attending Sixth Form because I knew I needed to go somewhere that would allow me to excel in both academic and social surroundings and it seemed the only appropriate place for that – Tom, Yr13 internal “Sixth form was always the path to greater success in my eyes” – Matthew, Yr12 external

ENTRANCE TO KS5 MUST BE DIFFERENT BECAUSE: NEW LINEAR A-LEVELS. NO AS COURSES. MOST STUDENTS WILL STUDY THREE A-LEVELS ONLY (UNLESS YOU DO OLD COURSES) YOU WILL NEED THE GREATER CAPACITY FOR LEARNING. YOU ARE LOCKED INTO YOUR COURSES FROM OCTOBER 1 ST. YOU CANNOT “DROP” A SUBJECT OR SIMPLY PICK UP AN AS TO BOOST YOUR UCAS POINTS. We must get you on the right courses from DAY 1 The process will be RIGOROUS

IF YOU DON’T MEET THE ENTRANCE CRITERIA YOU WILL NOT BE PLACED ON THE COURSE. FINAL DECISION

2015 SUITABILITY PROCESS STEP 1: MILESTONES: MUST BE COMPLETED OVER THE SUMMER TO GET ON THE COURSE. THIS MUST BE HANDED IN DAY ONE AND WILL BE ASSESSED AS PART OF THE SUITABILITY JUDGEMENT. STEP 2: ASSESSMENT OF MILESTONES AND ONE WEEK OF CONSOLIDATION IN LESSONS: TO PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT COMMITMENT, WORK ETHIC, EFFORT, ATTENDANCE, PUNCTUALITY ETC. STEP 3: ENTRANCE ASSESSMENT (S): YOU WILL BE ASSESSED ON SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE GAINED IN THE MILESTONE AND FIRST WEEK OF CONSOLIDATION, WHICH WILL BE VERY LITTLE. FINAL SUITABLITY JUDGEMENT: based on all 3 of the above. Staff will inform us of students who are of concern as we proceed through the process.
