Currents events How this affected the US? Or how has the US affected this event?

Current events In January 2013, France sent armed forces into combat in Mali, answering an urgent plea from the government of its former colony in the west Africa to help blunt a sudden an aggressive advance into the center of the country by islamist extremist militants. The state department said outright Monday that “ the U.S is not going to be engaged in combat operations in Mali” but will continue to play a keyhole in bolstering the French mission to drive Qaeda- linked rebels from the west African nation

Current events essential question How has this event affected the U.S? or how has the U.S affected this event? This event has affected the U.S by making them decide that they did not want to be engaged in the combat, which probably means that it is really serious.
