Benefits Aside from an insight to the world of work  students Have an opportunity to work alongside experts Gain an understanding of the world of work It makes their learning real  and It eases their transition into adult life

Synergies For some students Work Experience has led to a part time job or an apprenticeship All students can build a relationship that could lead to a reference Students CV’s can reflect the experience and their learning from it

And their learning? Transferable skills such as:  Team working  Problem solving  Application of IT and Numeracy  Communications skills But also personal skills such as:  Self Reliance  Resilience

In brief Students will need to:  Learn about different jobs and careers  Find their own placements in an area that interests them  Apply  Return all documentation by the deadline It is strongly recommended that your child has an agreed work placement organised by Christmas. Suggest they start NOW

In brief Parents can:  Discuss different careers and placements with your child  Encourage them to just ask!  Help them with the words that they can use  Remind them of the deadlines and the need to complete and return documentation to the school

In brief The school will  Provide information advice and guidance to all students  Support individual students with ideas and advice  Make a database of potential placements available to students  Provide initial training in the use of the website  Cover the initial costs of WEX (£33 per student)

Safety and Security of Students Each placement is checked by Education Business Partnership South West:  Employers’ Liability Insurance  Public Liability  Safe Working Practices Note: If a placement fails the Health and Safety checks, we cannot process that placement

Before and After Students will be:  Briefed about expectations  Provided with a logbook After the placement, students will  Be debriefed about their experiences  Self assess their skills related to critical skills in their logbook  Use the log books as a resource to help write their CV in Year 11
