3 Future Pathways 2015 Work Placements Next Steps O Opportunities in the different sectors of employment O Targeted work placements O How to survive in the World of Work O Exploration of different pathways into higher and further education O Apprenticeships and different routes into training and employment O Developing their understanding of the world of work O Independent Learning skills O Interview and work skills O An understanding of business and entrepreneurial skills

4 Future Pathways - Next Steps 2015 O Activities O Barclays Life Skills O Careers, applying for jobs and ‘mock interviews’ O Building a CV O Interview skills – Careers event O University visit – Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin O Apprenticeships O Punting

5 Work Experience 2015 O Using students predicted grades and knowledge of their likely steps post 16, tutors have highlighted those who would benefit from Work Experience. O We are discouraging students from working with parents/family members/friends – this could be more beneficial during a school holiday. That way students who have this opportunity can attend the next steps programme during the enrichment week. O Two routes – O Database provided by TEP O Student Own Placement (SOP)

6 The Employability Partnership (TEP) O LVC has limited funding to provide Work Experience however we have bought into The Employability Partnership who have provided us with a Database of placements within county. O All placements have been health and safety checked by TEP confirming their suitability for students on a work placement. O We have limited availability – Schools within county also use this database.

7 The Process - Database O Log in O Search the database O Make their choices O Identify preferred choice O Database will close on Friday 6 th February O Allocation of placements to students made by Miss Wood

8 Confirmation of Placement O Job and contact details & 4 way agreement given to student O Student to make contact with the employer O Interview to be arranged O 4 way agreement deadline is Friday 8 th May

9 4 -way Agreement O It is a legal requirement to have this in place before work experience can commence. O It needs to be completed by: O A parent O The employer O LVC – Miss Wood O Student

10 The Process – SOP (Student Own Placement) O Keep within County Cambridgeshire, Suffolk & Essex O Meet with Miss Wood O Yellow SOP form – Provides job details, insurance, risk assessments and signatures from Parents, employer and school. O Arrange an interview O SOP to be handed back to Miss Wood Deadlines: O Outside Cambridgeshire Friday 6 th February O Inside Cambridgeshire Friday 13 th March O Health and safety checks

11 What happens next?  Future Pathways parents evening 27 th November 2014, 6.30-7.30pm  After parents evening, discussion with parents/Students  Tutor mentoring  Decisions made by Tutors, Mr Simmons and Miss Wood as to which route students will benefit most from - Deadline 10 th December
