YOUTH RISK BEHAVIOR SURVEY (YRBS)

What is the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)? A nationwide survey produced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to monitor the six health-risk behaviors of youth: – Physical activity – Dietary behaviors – Tobacco use – Alcohol and other drug use – Behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence (including suicide) – Sexual risk behaviors Data is collected every other year, during the odd numbered years, in grades 6-8 and 9-12

How is YRBS Data Used? Describe risk behaviors Create awareness Set program goals Develop programs and polices Support health-related legislation Seek funding
