The 7 Habits By Eden

What do you mean the 7 Habits? The 7 habits are kind of like rules. They help with your daily actions, and decisions. We have been working on the 7 habits in Social Studies. These are: Be Proactive Begin with the End in Mind Put First Things First Think Win-Win Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood Synergize Sharpen the Saw

1. Be Proactive Being Proactive means: “I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitude, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.” Being Proactive is very important here at Derby. You need to get to class on time, work hard to solve a problem, and check to make sure your work is correct. These are great examples of being proactive.

2. Begin With the End in Mind Begin With the End in Mind means: “I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my schools mission and vision. I look for ways to be a good citizen.” Beginning With the End in Mind at Derby is very important, because we think you should never give up. If you believe you can ace the test, you won’t get hurt trying. If you try out for the cross country team, you can only get better. You just have to try.

3. Put First Things First Putting First Things First means: “I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I shouldn’t do. I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plans. I am disciplined, and organized.” At Derby, putting first things first is very important. For example, When you get home from school, and have 25 math problems to do, you should do it right away. You might be tempted to text your friend, but small excuses like this, can take up your whole evening.

4. Think Win-Win Thinking win-win means: I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others’ Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for third alternatives. This helps at Derby by making sure everyone gets what they want. Lets say you get paired up for a science project to make a hybrid animal. They want to make a tiger and a shark, but you want to make a turtle and a zebra. You can compromise by making a zebra shark hybrid, so you both get a part of what you want! It is very important to make sure everyone gets a chance to share in there ideas and wants.

5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood When you Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood, this means: "I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings. I try to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. I am confident in voicing my ideas. I look people in the eyes when talking.“ At Derby this is what all your teachers want of you. You need to really listen to what they say. So that you can understand, and use that throughout the assignment. If you don’t listen to what they say, it will be most likely be wrong if you want to be understood.

6. Synergize Synergizing means: "I value other people’s strengths and learn from them. I get along well with others, even people who are different than me. I work well in groups. I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than anyone of us can alone. I am humble.“ This helps at Derby when working together. You will often be put into table groups and teams of different sorts, and the most important thing is teamwork! You need to cooperate with each other or you won’t get the best of it.

7. Sharpen The Saw Sharpening the Saw means: I take care of my body by eating right, exercising and getting sleep. I spend time with family and friends. I learn in lots of ways and lots of places, not just at school. I find meaningful ways to help others. This helps at Derby by feeling good. You need to take the action and go to sleep at night to have a good day the next day. You need to exercise to stay in shape and stay healthy to do your very best. Starting a clean slate is good any day. You need to stay flexible, and make the best out of your time. It will help your education, time, and mind.

So these are the 7 habits. If you understand them, and do your best to follow them, it will be the key to success! Credits Google Images 7 Habits of Happy Kids By Eden
