Supervising Instruction Week 9 Writing Assignment

Your writing assignment information is being presented during week 9 to help you prepare your paper which is due at the end of week 10. Each week you should work diligently on a portion of the paper.

Research Find research on a type of supervision presented in this course. Select either a specific type of supervision or an item within that supervision type. Make sure that your topic is approved by your professor prior to beginning any research. Find research that supports and criticizes this type of supervision. If you are unable to find criticisms you may interview teachers, professors, instructors and students. Make sure you use a minimum of five sources, two of which should not be online resources. You may not use all your resources in your paper, but you are gathering information.

Brainstorm Decide how you want to present the information. This is critical because you have the opportunity to be creative, but academic. Create an outline of how you want to present the information. Think in terms of doing an oral presentation. The information should flow from one thought to another and not seem to discontinue abruptly. Determine if you have enough research to support the position based on your outline, pros and cons, and introductory and conclusive information. At the end of this paper your should be prepared to ascertain some implications of your research.

Developing After creating your outline begin writing. Make sure your thesis statement clearly states the position that you want to take. Make sure as you develop your argument or ideas that you continue to stay on topic. This is crucial to the development of a quality, collegiate research paper. Remember this is an academic assignment so it must be presented and documented in that fashion.

Style You may use MLA, APA, or Turabian. Footnotes are always encouraged, but do what you feel comfortable with. Be consistent. Once you have chosen a style, stick with it throughout the paper. Use 12 pt font of Arial, Courier, New Times Roman, or Tahoma. Make sure your paper is double spaced. If you are submitting your paper online make sure that you save it in a format that will not alter its presentation in transmission.

Final Draft Your final draft should have a cover sheet. The cover sheet should be consistent with that of the style of the paper. It should include a bibliography/works cited sheet. Make sure you have at least five sources. Your bibliography should also be consistent with style you have chosen for your paper. Your paper should be at least five pages and include an introduction and conclusion.

Optional Extra Credit Present information in an oral presentation. Determine with your instructor how this will be presented either orally, on CD, wav or mp3 file. Do not simply read your paper. Actually present the information. Quite possibly information that could not fit in the constraints of your paper might be presented at this time. There may be additional requirements by your on-site instructor.
