Special Topics Courses Available within each six-digit CIP code. College chooses discipline-specific learning outcomes for these courses. Identified by a 9 in the third digit of the course number. Reviewed at Course Review Workshops to determine if they should become regular WECM courses. Valid for 24 months. Must resubmit if not incorporated in WECM.

Special Topics Courses Title must be workforce related. Course content must be related to workforce education Used only when course content is not available in the WECM Address current events, skills, and knowledge relevant to the field Presented through electronic submission process

Learning Outcomes: Learning outcomes/objectives are determined by local occupational need and business and industry trends.

Local Need Courses Colleges may submit Local Need courses to respond to unique local or regional conditions. Evidence of need for these courses must be substantiated by support from business and industry in a limited geographical area. Local Need Courses are reviewed at Course Review Workshops to determine if they should be included in the WECM.

Mirror Image Course Many Semester Credit Hour (SCH) courses have exact replicas (mirror images) offered for Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Referenced in the WECM below course number.

Learning Outcomes: Apply the basic rules of grammar, spelling, capitalization, number usage, and punctuation; utilize terminology applicable to technical and business writing; develop proofreading and editing skills; and write effective sentences and paragraphs for business applications. Learning Outcomes: Provide secure access to local network users; remote users and remote offices; provide secure access between private and public networks; and provide secure access to partners.

These are designed for institutions wishing to offer courses addressing similar outcomes as those in vendor specific courses but the institutions are not vendor authorized. Less Than 7-Hour Mandatory Licensure/Credentialing Courses Contained in the WECM for such topics as Real Estate, Hepatitis Training, etc. Colleges send these courses as Local Need to CB. CB verifies mandatory training for licensure/certification with state agency. CB sends to WECM Maintenance Project for incorporation into WECM.

CIP Area Code: (Nursing [R.N. Training]) Course Title: Hepatitis C License Renewal for Nurses Course Level: Intermediate Course Description: Continuing education requirements for registered nurses. Up-to-date training of risk factors, sources, routes, transmission, and prevention of Hepatitis C Virus. Includes serologic and laboratory test and the nursing care of a patient with Hepatitis C Virus. Learning Outcomes: Define Hepatitis C virus; describe the risk factors for acquiring Hepatitis C virus; recognize sources, routes, transmission, and prevention of the virus; describe the serologic and laboratory test used to diagnose and evaluate patients with the virus; and understand nursing care for a patient of Hepatitis C Virus. WECM/ACGM and FOS Course If a WECM course is parallel in content to a Lower-Division Academic Course Guide Manual (ACGM) course, the ACGM course is referenced in the WECM. A Field of Study (FOS) course is intended for transfer of lower division course credit to baccalaureate programs at senior institutions. If a WECM SCH course is parallel to an ACGM FOS course, the WECM course description will be annotated.

Available for use and FUNDING until the indicated archive date. Courses archived this fiscal year will be available for funding until August 31, 2005.

Course Title Title should reflect the course description and outcomes and be workforce-related. Published WECM title for SCH courses must appear in college publications and on transcripts. For CEU courses, workforce marketing titles may be used; however, all CEU mirror courses must use the published WECM title.
