Juan De Pareja was born in the year 1610 in Seville, Spain. He is the son of a female slave He was one of Diego Velazquez’s students He became a religious and portrait painter, Juan died in 1670 in Spain
In 1648, as court painter to Phillip IV of Spain, Diego Velazquez was sent to Rome to purchase works of art, and he took Juan with him 1648-Diego Velazquez painted a portrait of Juan De Pareja March 19, 1650-the portrait of Juan de Pareja was displayed at the Pantheon 1670-death
He became a court painter to Phillip IV of Spain He was a slave, but studied art and became a painter
Juan de Pareja was born into slavery. His new master, Diego Velazquez taught him about art He was interesting to read about because he had done something impossible for a slave to do.
Juan de Pareja was a lifelong assistant of Diego Velazquez, who sets him free, so that he could become an artist. I chose this artist to do a biography about because he had a very interesting life.
