The Global Burden of Uncorrected Refractive Error 153 million with uncorrected Rx distance million uncorrected presbyopes = Today, more than 670 million people do not have access to the eye exams and glasses they need. Without glasses, children may be unable to learn at school and parents unable to provide for their families.

Funding a sustainable solution… Vision Care Local Training Infrastructure Immediate access to an eye exam and glasses Training local staff to provide ongoing services Establishing Vision Centers for sustainability

Successes Through 2009 Optometry Giving Sight has distributed nearly $3 million through its partners to:  Screen and provide basic eye care services to more than 3.5 million people  Dispense 100,000 pairs of glasses  Refer 8,500 for surgery, tertiary services  Train 1,550 mid-level eye care personnel  Create 101 vision centers and optical labs Funds were directed to projects in Sri Lanka, Southern Africa, East Timor, Latin America, Indigenous Australia, Papua New Guinea, as well other parts of the world

Giving Sight to Haiti OGS leading Haiti vision care appeal efforts In Haiti, partnering with: –Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) –International Centre for Eyecare Education (ICEE) –Caribbean Optometrists Association (CARIOA) Identifying and funding emergency relief projects, replacing lost glasses Developing plan for long-term reconstruction and establishment of quality, sustainable vision care, including training of local eye care professionals
