Please choose a topic to look at first: Significant momentsSignificant characters Significant dialogue from key scenes and key characters How is information about the plot and characters given Why should the audience care about the characters in the film The Enigma

Significant moments Home There are a number of significant moments in the film “Sight”, 1 when the main character eats his meal in front of the tv, at this point the technology looks intriguing and interesting and then recognisable and innocuous to most as a gaming platform. Intriguing because we cant see the screen but he can, and innocuous as he skydiving in his front room not playing COD! 2 the technology becomes more troubling when he “games” to chop his vegetable, discarding the first batch so he gets a higher score – one starts to wonder whether he is obsessive 3 on the date he scores her on looks, which is a recognisable trait, even if we do it subconsciously, but then he scores her eating, drinking and reactions in a clinical way. 4. Is his reaction to her wanting to leave normal? He hacks her system and seems to make her stay against her free will when she discovers that he is a “obsessive gamer”. She underestimates this discovery because in actuality it isn’t just controlling his life it is now controlling hers

Significant characters Home There are 3 significant characters in Sight One could argue that the male character represents good initially – playing with his skydiving game, living quietly in his sterile white home. He is clean cut and seemingly harmless. Like the good guy in a cowboy film he is wearing a white tshirt The female character is the innocent good person, she doesn’t make a big deal of his gaucheness about the sports jacket and continues with the date. He seems unable to function normally, constantly checking with his “apps” to check what to do, say next. He competes with her subconsciously over the marathon app when she mentions the level she is on he automatically checks how he compares. He evolves to evil when “taken over” by the evil side of his character in the use of technology and being a “game junkie” as she accuses him of. He uses his position at Sight Systems to control her at the end, although he has used his knowledge of her and her profile to manipulate her throughout the date.

Significant dialogue from key scenes and key characters Home No dialogue from the 2 protagonists until they meet -Its actually a sports jacket….look good even when they are being chased by the police -It didn’t say that on your profile -I don’t write everything on my profile -Is it true that they can manipulate sight -A freaking game junkie -I said wait There is unspoken dialogue between the man and his “wingman” on the date, with tips on what to say and do popping up in his vision. It is not clear if this is automatic or whether he searches for the answers Also the scoring system has dialogue, telling him when he is doing well, giving him thumbs ups, etc

How is information about the plot and characters given Home -We are drip fed the level of control that the main character possesses -Initially we see his gaming as innocent and recreational whilst skydiving, then a little weird and obsessive when chopping vegetable. By the time he leaves his home for the date and orders wine by thought and accesses her profile we are uncomfortable. But still unprepared for the level of control he exercises when he makes her stop before leaving. You are left wondering whether the other girls on his “scorecard” experienced similar -We see her as a the girl next door innocent character, although she does ask probing questions about his work she ignores his faux pas and agrees to go back to his place.

Why should the audience care about the characters in the film Home -The audience should care as this doesn’t seem too far into the future. We have people who obsessively game, we have people who control their lives through technology and who use apps to determine where to travel, how far to run, what to eat, etc, etc

The Enigma Home -We don’t know what happens to the girl at the end of the date. Is she aware of what happens, does she remember or does something even more sinister happen to her -We are still not clear at the end of the short whether he ultimately has control or whether his sight is controlling him and therefore is he evil or is the sight system evil.
