Earth & the Seasons 3rd grade Katonya Beaubouef

revolution The movement of the Earth around the sun.

axis An imaginary line that goes through the Earth from the North Pole to the South Pole which the Earth rotates on.

rotation The spinning of the Earth on its axis.

Name 2 movements of the Earth: Revolution Rotation

Rotation 24 Hours = 1 day

Revolution 365 ¼ = 1 year

Which other object rotates and revolves? Earth’s moon

Why does Earth have season’s? Because the Earth is tilted, its surface gets different amounts of sunlight at different times in the year.

How much of Earth’s surface is in sunlight at one time? One-half of the Earth.

When it is winter in the northern half of Earth, what season is it in the southern half?

Why are many places warmer in summer than in winter? The places that are warmer are close to the sun.

The tilt of the Earth’s axis causes… Seasons

Name the 9 planets in order. Mercury Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune Pluto
