Parts of Speech Nouns Objectives: To identify nouns, compound nouns, common and proper nouns, and collective nouns To substitute specific nouns for vague, general nouns when writing and revising

Hints to Identify Nouns Place the article a,an, or the before a word. If it makes sense, then it is probably a noun. (This does not work with nouns that are ideas, I.e. freedom, some proper nouns, or dates).
