Geographic Points Of Interest (GPOI)

What is a POI? A Point of Interest (POI) is any feature or service that people wish to visit or know the location of, and is of value to the community particularly with respect to wayfinding, vehicle routing or dispatch. A POI must contain: - Name - Location - Address

Application of POIs – how are they used Mapping Products – SSD, Tourist Maps, Atlases Emergency Dispatch GIS – ie Property reports, insurance Asset Management Location-based services Navigation/vehicle routing Services

Duplicate POI Maintenance DEC – National Parks Recreation facilities DME – Mines MRWA – Distance Markers LGA – Community Services, parks DOW – water points, bores, wells and tanks WAPOL – Community Services / Businesses FESA - Community Services Landgate – All of the above.

WALIS Points of Interest Working Group 1 st meeting held in November Meeting identified the following needs; – An agreed definition of POI – A vision statement – A strategy for state-wide POI data management and dissemination –Understanding agency business needs and associated POI characteristics (attributes) –Need for suitable funding model/s to build the fundamental land information data source
