Draft of Questions Based on Pennsylvania Action Coalition 4 Key Messages

Remove scope-of-practice barriers In regards to the role of a baccalaureate prepared RN, how is the role changing? How do we predict both current and future expectations for nurses outside of the acute care environment? How does the implementation of the consensus model impact primary care in the Commonwealth?

Expand opportunities for nurses to lead and diffuse collaborative improvement efforts What are the nursing roles that employers are looking to expand upon in the near future? What is the intended skill mix of these roles? From a payer perspective, what is your outlook on reimbursement for health/wellness promotion for roles at the baccalaureate level? (ex. Case Manager, Nurse Navigator roles etc.) Role conflict among graduate level prepared RNs – CRNP vs. CNS What are the models that inform achieving a balance?

Implement nurse residency programs What are the best practices for both transitioning and integrating APRNs in primary care settings? Who are the stakeholders that can drive the facilitation of better integration to practice for NPs? How can the academic and service model be more integrated to prepare primary care providers? How can we better anticipate workforce development needs to match changes in healthcare? (ex. nurse residency programs  Home care, APRNs, primary care) What is the commitment of organizations in sustaining current efforts to advance the education of nurses should a large employment need occur?

Increase proportion of nurses with BSN degree to 80% by 2020 In regards to the role of a baccalaureate prepared RN, how is the role changing? How do we predict both current and future expectations for nurses outside of the acute care environment?

Improving health care workforce data collection to better assess and project workforce requirements. How can data support the anticipation of needs in our region? What are the primary care needs in the regions from RN and APRN perspective?
