Develop natural curiosity. Actively enjoy learning. Ready, Set, ACTION! Inquire: VERB. It is an ACTION. IT requires movement.

Step 2: Knowledge seekers

What Does It Mean… To be Knowledgeable?!

Knowledgeable Explore concepts, ideas, and issues that have local and global significance. Acquire in-depth knowledge and develop understanding across a broad and balanced range of disciplines.

Cool….Why? Why be knowledgeable? With knowledge comes power When you have the power in your hands, you have the ability to be able to implement changes in your world for the better. You can change lives, instill great influence in this earth, and leave a positive impact on the uprising generations. With knowledge and power, you can take your skills of leadership to levels beyond what you thought possible.

Step 3: The Thinkers

Communication: Defined To Communicate (Verb) Requires ACTION (seeing a pattern?) Definitions: to impart knowledge of; make known: to communicate information to give to another; impart; transmit: to communicate a disease. Communication is the SUCCESSFUL translation of downloaded information from one source to another.

So… Who are the Communicators?

Step 6: Open-Minded

What in the HECK does being “open-minded” mean? Reflect: In your journals, write down what you think it means to be open- minded. Give an example of a time when you were open-minded AND an example of a time when you thought it was difficult to be so.

Definition: Adjective State of being. A CHOICE 1. having or showing a mind receptive to new ideas or arguments. 2. unprejudiced; unbigoted; impartial.

How should you be open-minded? Understand and appreciate your own culture and personal history. Open to the perspectives, values, and traditions of other individuals and communities. Accustomed to seeking and evaluating a range of views. Willing to grow from your experiences.

The Next Steps: Part 1 Each person in your groups needs to write a one page summary of his or her own culture and personal history. Expand on your values, beliefs, perspectives on life, and traditions. You will turn this in at the end of the period for 10 points.

Step 7: Reflective

What does it mean? What does this mean to you? Journal this now. Reflective is the ADJECTIVE form of the infinitive verb form: To Reflect To Reflect: What does this mean to you? Journal this now.

How is learner reflective? Give thoughtful consideration to your own learning and experience. Able to assess and understand your strengths and limitations in order to support your learning and personal development.

WHY…What? When… Why should reflection take place? What types of results can reflection produce? What should reflection look like? How often should reflection occur?

Step 8: compassionate caring

Define: In order to be caring, you must first possess compassion. What does compassion mean to you? In what ways this past week have you demonstrated compassion?

According to Webster… Compassion is the feeling of empathy for others. Compassion is the emotion that we feel in response to the suffering of others that motivates a desire to help.

How is a LEArner caring? Show empathy, compassion, and respect towards the needs and feelings of others. Have a personal commitment to service. Act to make a positive difference to the lives of others and the environment.

What does a Learner do as a RISK TAKER? Approach unfamiliar situations and uncertainty with courage and forethought. Have the independence of spirit to explore new roles, ideas, and strategies. Be brave and articulate your beliefs.
