Working Together

London Road Safety Council has been in existence since 1 st December 1916 and is an independent Registered Charity Uniquely made up of London Road Safety borough officers, elected council members and associated members which include the Met Police, London Fire Service, London Ambulance Service Links to other professional organisations RoSPA, GEM, TfL RSGB, to name a few

LRSC aim is to reduce casualties by providing education and awareness to the public Recently gone through a transition Road Safety Officers were consulted –  Wanted skills development  Plus the development of packages for delivery on specific topics which they could embrace and deliver  Working in partnership - one of LRSC’s long standing partners is The Makaton Charity  LRSC produced a resource for the teaching of road safety via Makaton signing.

LRSC saw an increase in demand for Makaton resource Resource is being used in a variety of settings LRSC relationship with the Makaton Charity goes back a number of years Additionally the increase in demand maybe due to:-  CBeebies – programme Mr Tumble  Increase in Makaton trained staff - now 1,200 licensed Tutors

Makaton focused on Road Safety in their tutor training days This shared resource – which is being updated will be on the Makaton website LRSC Role – to facilitate training courses and continue to develop the resource with the Makaton charity – two charities working together
