Focus questions 1. Did women have a big, or a small role in colonial times? 2. What did they do to help? 3. Who did they serve, and why? 4. What did they do while the soldiers weren't around? 5. Were there any requirements they had to follow?

Answers to Focus Questions 1. Women had a pretty moderate role in wartimes. 2. They cooked, and doctored the men fighting. 3. They served their husbands and/or the soldiers 4. When the soldiers were away fighting, they would clean, eat, sleep, ect. 5. They were not able to know what the men were doing, or personally ask them, surprisingly enough.

Women In The Wars Women repaired things, such as touching up paint, or making sure everything is in order correctly.

The War of 1812 Considered one of America's "forgotten wars" The war lasted for over 2 years It started because the British started impressing, so, instead of America taking peaceful action, they decided to go to war.

Women in General Women didn't have many rights, for example, women working in cotton and and woolen mills were paid $2 a week, and had very poor living conditions. Women were not allowed to give evidence in court, and they were not allowed to speak in front of an audience. When a woman got married, her husband legally owned everything she had.

The American Red Cross  Formed in 1881  Created by Clara Barton  Helps with disaster relief such as fires, tornados, hurricanes, ect.  Has local blood drives, so people can donate blood to give to another person.

Notes In colonial, and wartimes, from the 1700’s to the 1800s, women; cooked cleaned made household goods to use and sell Took care of animals Middle class women usually had servants to help them
