British Social Realism Tom Mitchell

Genre themes Social realism films are normally about people who suffer from a difficult life such as immigration police after them. Social realism is sometimes about gangs, who cause trouble where ever they go. There is sometimes some dodgy characters who will do what they want to get there own way.

Narrative In most social realism the narrative is that the hero or main person struggles in life and they normally have to overcome a problem and must deal with it. It normally reflects what happens in life on the streets. Kidulthood and Adulthood represents what happens in youth gang culture in London

Dirty Pretty Things This film represent about two illegal immigrants in London. Where the main character is Okwe who is a Nigerian man and drives a cab in London during the day and works at the front desk of a hotel at night. At the end of the film he must leave his love interest and depart to Nigeria to be with his daughter this shows that even though he conquered over his struggle he still does not get the perfect ending.

This Is England This film represent ethnicity and skinheads and also shows one side of politics. Combo expresses English nationalist and racist views. The gang then engages in racist antagonism of, among others, local shopkeeper Mr. Sandhu, a Pakistani man who had previously banned Shaun from his shop.
