Welcome to Grade 11 Classroom Expectations Sandra Keren

Welcome to 11th grade! I will introduce you to 11th grade and our classroom. If you have any questions during my presentation, please raise your hand and wait to be called on.

All About Me My background  I grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  I arrived in Israel in 1978 and attended Tel-Aviv University where I did my BA in French and English Literature and my MA in Language teaching. My experience  I’ve been teaching in Yarden school for the last 18 years.

My Family My husband  Moshe My children  Maya & Sheila Our pets  We have a Collie (dog) called Vinnie  We also have several cats in the backyard

My Goals To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to 12th grade. To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. To help you discover new interests.

Student Behaviors Be prompt  Be ready to learn when class begins. Be prepared  Have materials with you and know due dates. Be a polite and positive participant  Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively. Be productive  Turn in work on time, and always do your best. Be a problem solver  Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate.

Show Respect Value yourself. Be honest and ethical, and practice strong moral values. Treat all members of the school community and all visitors with politeness and respect. Honor the ideas and opinions of others. Offer to help. Be responsible with property and belongings. Keep the classroom clean and tidy.

Responsibility for Coursework Bring notebook, textbook, planner, and appropriate writing tools to class. Bring a dictionary when asked. Know due dates, and submit all coursework on time.

Promote Lifelong Learning You can develop lifelong learning traits:  By showing curiosity about human nature and how the world works.  By seeking and valuing diversity.  By persisting in seeking out new solutions.  By using your unique talents and intelligence to promote positive change.  By learning and applying technology tools to solve problems.

Policies Food and beverages are not allowed in the classroom. Please be in your seat when the bell rings, as class begins at that time. Hand in your assignments on time (assignments handed in late will reduce your grade by 15%). Absences  Ask a classmate first for assignments – if you can’t find out what it is send me an and I will let you know.

Grading Grades are based on the accumulation of points. Points are based on:  Class participation (effort)  Completion of assignments (daily work)  Major projects, exams, and self-reflection. Grading system: Quizzes 20% Oral Participation 10% Classwork + HW 20-30% Project + tests 30-40%

Academic requirements This year you will be doing Module E at the end of the year. You will have to prepare a project that will be presented to the class and might be presented in the oral bagrut exam. You have to hand in 5 book reports until the end of grade 12.  2 in grade 10 – hopefully done last year!  2 in grade 11  1 in grade 12

Academic requirements As a 5 point student you are required to study English Literature. In the following 2 years you will study:  1 Play  4 short stories  5 poems English literature is part of the curriculum and will be included in your year grades for Bagrut. For that you will have to hand in a literature portfolio that includes all literature studied + 5 book reports.

My Pledge to Students I will trust you until you give me reason to do otherwise. I will respect you and work with you to solve problems. I will promptly correct and offer feedback on your work. I will work with you to meet learning goals. I will offer extra help and alternative assessments should you require them.

Hard work leads to success, so let’s start working! Have a Great Year!
