Good Night Future Charger Parents! We appreciate your attendance tonight and are looking forward to making lasting educational experiences for your children.

Questions and Answers Q: When do parents get a tour of the building? A: In the past we have offered an open house. More information on dates and times will be posted on our website in the future. Q: When do parents meet teachers? A: Parents meet teachers on Back to School Night. This date will be announced later in the school year. Q: What are the hours of the after school activities? A: After school activities are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until 4:00. The specific day for each activity is posted on our website. Q: How much homework can we expect? A: Homework is assigned daily, but it varies depending on each subject. Teachers keep a calendar of major assignments and exams and we do our very best to limit major assessments to two per day. If you feel the amount of homework is overwhelming at any time during the school year, please contact the teacher or the counseling department and we will help you.

Questions and Answers Q: How big are the classes? A: The class sizes vary depending on the courses. The Physical Education class and some band classes are larger. The average class size in English is around 26 and the average class size for the other classes is around 29. Q: Do Middle School students have a homeroom teacher? A: Yes, all students are assigned a homeroom teacher. Students will only go to homerooms on the first 2 days of school and to receive their report cards during the school year. Q: Do sixth graders have a lunch break? A: Yes, all 6th grade students eat together at the same time. The lunch is from 10:37 – 11:07. Q: How many students are at Hoover? How many 6th graders are at Hoover? A: We have around 1,040 students at Hoover. The classes are usually around 325 – 350 students per grade.

Questions and Answers Q: Is there much project-based learning? A: Our teachers are skilled at differentiating instruction to meet the needs of each student in their class. Projects are one component of how teachers assess how much a student knows. Some classes tend to use more projects than others based on the individual course objectives. Q: Are intramural sports available to sixth graders? A: No, intramural sports are for 7th and 8th grade students only. 6th grade students are allowed to participate in our after school activities and clubs. Q: Are students guaranteed their elective of choice? A: In 6th grade, students are either in band, orchestra or the exploratory classes as their elective. Q: What are hours for the mini-day on August 27th? A: The mini-day is from 7:45 – 11:45. It is for all 6th grade students as well as students new to Hoover. Students will get their lockers, walk through their schedule, and meet their teachers. It is for the students only. Students that are bus riders will be picked up and dropped off just like the first day of school.

Questions and Answers Q: How will you determine which students take Advanced English 6? A: All incoming sixth grade students will be enrolled in Advanced English 6. Q: How will you teach different level students in Advanced English 6? A: Advanced English 6 teachers will collaborate to differentiate instruction to meet the instructional needs of all students. We differentiate novels based on students’ interests and reading levels and teachers continuously adapt instruction based on feedback from student assignments.
