If you are having difficulty with the timing of a double-tap, adjust the double-tap speed. Double-tap speed is configured on the Pen Options tab by tapping the Settings button. Note Many digital pens have a right-click button on the barrel of the pen. If you have a tendency to inadvertently press the right-click button when entering text, you may want to disable it. Disable the right-click button on the digital pen by using the Pen buttons menu on the Pen Options tab. 1 Open Control Panel and double-tap Tablet and Pen Settings. On the Settings tab, select Right- handed or Left-handed, and then tap OK. Close Control Panel. 2 3 Configure Tablet and Pen Settings By configuring Tablet and Pen Settings, you can calibrate the digital pen, adjust the pen’s double-tap speed, disable the right-click button on the pen, and configure Tablet PC to work better with the hand you write with (which is referred to as “handedness”). During setup, configure Handedness on the Settings tab of the Tablet and Pen Settings dialog. Navigate with a Digital Pen Navigating with a digital pen is much like navigating with a mouse. In fact, most of the actions performed with a mouse have a digital pen equivalent. Mouse ActionPen Action Point ClickTap Double-clickDouble-tap Drag Right-clickPress and hold The Tablet PC enables Digital Ink and voice input through its advanced handwriting and speech recognition capabilities. Using this guide, you will learn to: 1 Open Control Panel, and then double-tap Tablet and Pen Settings. On the Settings tab, tap Calibrate, and then follow the instructions. Tap OK, and then close Control Panel. 2 3 Configuring your Tablet PC for the hand you write with increases the accuracy of the handwriting recognition software. Handwriting recognition is also more accurate if you hold the pen naturally, rest your hand on the screen, and write as you normally would. To configure handedness: If the digital pen is not synchronized with movements on the screen, you will need to calibrate the digital pen. Always calibrate for both landscape and portrait page orientations. To calibrate the digital pen: Navigate with a Digital Pen Configure Tablet and Pen Settings Enter Text Using the Input Panel Use Gestures to Perform Keyboard Actions Use Tablet PC Tutorials

Enter Text Using the Input Panel Enter text on the Input Panel using the Writing Pad, Character Pad, or the On-Screen Keyboard. To open the Input Panel, tap the Input Panel shortcut next to the Start button. When entering text in the Writing Pad, simply write above the horizontal line. You don’t need to worry about spacing or letter placement. The recognized text is shown beneath the horizontal line. Use Gestures to Perform Keyboard Actions Gestures are symbols you draw with your digital pen using the Input Panel. Use gestures to perform common keyboard actions, such as Backspace, Space, Enter, and Tab. In the Writing Pad and the Character Pad, draw the symbol for the gesture in the writing area where you enter text. The dot indicates where the pen starts. Note When using a gesture in the Character Pad, ensure that the strokes of your gesture cover the width of two or more writing spaces. Select your preferred method of entering text from the options on the left side of the user interface. Use Tablet PC Tutorials Tablet PC tutorials are user friendly and very helpful. Start with the Tablet PC Basics and Improving Handwriting Recognition tutorials. To take the tutorials, double-tap All Programs, and then Tablet PC. Select Tablet PC Tutorials, and then choose a tutorial. When entering text with the Character Pad, you need to write characters between the dividers on the horizontal line. Leave one blank space between words. Handwriting recognition occurs as you write. Using hand-writing recognition, the input panel provides the most likely match to handwritten text. The input panel also offers the ability to make quick corrections as you go. As shown below, alternatives to the recognized text appear with a list of alternatives.
