Water Quality Testing By Josie, Davina, and Spencer McKenny Elementary 3/22/12

What is water testing? Contains 7 tests: Fecal Coliform PH Nutrients (nitrates) Turbidity Temperature DO BOD

Fecal Coliform Optimal standard: <50 colonies/100ml October: 70 February: 26 October results better

pH Optimal Standard: 7-8 October: 7.5 February: 7.5 Both results good Measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions in water

Nitrates Optimal Standards: <1 mg/1 October: 1.00 February: 1.7 October results better at Historical Park

Turbidity Optimal standard: <20 JTUs October: 2.5 February: 10 Both good but October better What: Cloudiness or murkiness of the water

Temperature Optimal standard: 9-12 C October: 10 C February: 7 C October better- salmon eggs can’t hatch 7 C (like 9 C)

DO Optimal standard: >9 ml/1 October: 11/95% February: 9.83/80% October better DO = the amount of oxygen gas

BOD Optimal standard: >6.0 mg/l October: 9.33 February: Error After 5 days, test BOD

Thanks for listening Any questions?
