2 nd Activity- 10 minutes 1. Work with a partner or alone and match the definitions to the words (with the word strips provided) 2. Once they are checked for correctness, you will write the definitions into your study guide. 3. You may use your book to read the word in a sentence.

3 rd Activity- 5 minutes 1. You will be assigned 1-2 words to write a GOOD sentence for. You must show the meaning of the word/s in some way (hint: use a synonym). 2. You will present the sentence/s during the powerpoint.

3. complement

1. POS- noun Definition- something that completes or perfects Synonym- match Antonym- take away 2. POS- verb Definition- to complete A bride needs to find just the right accessories to complement her dress.

4. concept

POS- noun Definition- a thought or an idea Antonym- being, concrete Did you understand the concepts that were presented in geometry class?

5. gigantic

POS- adjective Definition- huge, very large Synonym- colossal, enormous Antonym- small, tiny That is one gigantic dog!

6. invalid

1. POS- adjective Definition- not accepted, binding, or legal; not true Synonym- false Antonym- accurate, correct, true 2. POS- noun Definition- a person who is too sick or unable to care for him or herself Synonym- disabled If a contract does not have a signature, it can be considered invalid.

7. lunar

POS- adjective Definition- having to do with the moon Is this a picture of a lunar eclipse?

8. prey

1. POS- noun Definition- the hunted Synonym- casualty, game Antonym- hunter 2. POS- verb Definition- to hunt or have power over something weaker This zebra is the prey of the lion.

9. prime

POS- adjective Definition- first; top rated in quality or value Synonym- best, elite Antonym- cheap, generic This is known to be a prime speaker system in today’s stereo market.

10. rectify

POS- verb Definition- to correct; make right Synonym- repair, fix Antonym- damage, ruin If your vision is getting worse you may need to rectify the problem by getting glasses.

roots, suffix roots prim means “first” (i.e. primal, primary) rect means “straight” or “correct” (i.e. rectify, correct) Suffix ify means “to make” (i.e. rectify, magnify, identify)
