Presentation transcript:

Mummification…  What is Mummification? Mummification is the preservation of bodies through many different phases of applying drying agents and embalming the body. The Egyptians mummify their dead to respect that individual and to ensure that each body was reacquainted with it’s Ka, a soul or spirit.

How did the Egyptians dry and embalm the body?  First, the body was embalmed. The brain, liver, lungs, stomach, and intestines were removed and placed in Canopic Jars.  After that, the body had to be preserved. They covered the body in Natron, a salt  Finally, the dried body was wrapped in layers of linen strips.  The whole process took 70 days.
