The Visual/Verbal Learner: Learns best when information is presented visually and in written form. Benefits from information in textbooks and class notes. Often can “see” information in their mind when trying to remember something.

Look at the person who is speaking to you; it will help you focus. Use color to highlight details. Make flashcards. Take many notes & write down a lot of details. Try to work alone in a quiet place.

Muskingum College Personal Style Inventory My Results  Introversion – 11 versus Extroversion – 14  Intuition – 6 versus Sensing – 19  Thinking – 10 versus Feeling – 15  Perceiving – 3 versus Judging – 22 What Do These Scores Mean? Scores of 12 or 13 – suggest a balance between the two areas. Scores of 14 or 15 suggest a slight imbalance. Scores between 16 and 19 suggest a definite imbalance. Scores between 20 and 25 suggest a considerable imbalance.

Texas Tech University Style Type Indicator According to this assessment, I am an ESFJ type This means I am a/an:  Extrovert  Sensing Person  Feeling Person  Judging Person

CharacteristicsClassroom Techniques Introverted People:  Are independent.  Tend to be quiet.  Usually socially reserved.  Incorporate “alone” time activities.  Realize that introverted people do not always work well in cooperative groups. Extroverted People:  Are outgoing.  Like working with others.  Don’t mind interruptions.  Incorporate cooperative group activities.  Encourage intense class discussions.  Be “hands-on” in your teaching approach. Feeling People:  Make judgments based on empathy & personal values.  Are interested in people.  Show their feelings.  Allow them to be the peer mediator in class.  Encourage them to see the actual truth behind matters when making decisions.  Incorporate cooperative group activities. Thinking People:  Make judgments based on logic.  May step on others’ feelings without realizing it.  Allow them to be analytical at times.  As a teacher, remember that thinkers usually are concerned with the truth and are good at noticing inconsistencies.

Characteristics Classroom Techniques Intuitive People:  Prefer possibilities.  Have a hard time maintaining interest in topics they dislike.  Offer many choices.  Present topics in a “catchy” way.  Encourage creativity in assignments. Sensing People:  Prefer concrete, factual information.  Mistrust intuition.  Think in detail.  Present concrete & factual information.  Use a hands-on approach.  Teach the facts that build up to the “big picture.” Perceptive People:  Are open, flexible & nonjudgmental.  May become frustrated easily.  Present all sides of issues since perceivers enjoy new perspectives.  Allow them to mix work and play.  Support their occasional bursts of energy. Judging People:  Are decisive.  Usually set and stick to goals.  Want to make decisions and move on.  Allow the judgers in the class to be leaders.  Be organized in your teaching methods.  Be sure they think through all decisions thoroughly instead of rushing.

My Secondary Learning Styles, Strategies For Improvement… To be more INTROVERTED INTROVERTED, I should…  Spend more time alone when studying  Spend more time reflecting on my work  Be more reflective To be more INTUITIVE INTUITIVE, I should…  Try to be more creative  Work from the big picture to the facts  Be interested in doing new and different things

Some More Strategies… To be more of a THINKING THINKING person, I should…  Make more judgments based on logic  Be more impersonal at times  Not be so concerned with empathy, values and personal warmth PERCEPTIVE To be more PERCEPTIVE, I should…  Be more open, flexible & nonjudgmental  Try to see all sides of an issue before making decisions  Try to mix work and play occasionally
