Need Based Scholarships  Usually reviewed by the institution after Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is completed.  Review the institution’s web site.  A good reason to complete FAFSA.

State Grants Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP)-up to $4720 (15 credit hours per semester) MAP grant suspended to all students whose initial FAFSA was, or will be, received by the federal processor on or after March 2, 2013 (deadline March 1, :59 pm).  be a U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident  be an Illinois resident (If you are a dependent, the parent whose information is used on the FAFSA must be an Illinois resident)Illinois residentdependentFAFSA  demonstrate financial need (EFC )

Federal Aid Complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) school code You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident Undocumented parents of U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents must print signature page and submit it by mail. Undocumented students who have been approved for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) are not eligible to apply for FAFSA

Federal Aid (cont.)  Pell Grant-up to $5645 –Lifetime Pell Eligibility 6 years or 600% (NSLDS.ED.GOV) EFC  FSEOG Grant -$100-$4000  Federal Work Study- Money earned during the school year.

Federal Aid- Loans Investment in Yourself  Perkins Loan- 5% interest rate  Direct Stafford Subsidized Loan-3.86% interest rate (7/1/2013)  Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Loan-3.86% interest rate  Direct Parent Plus Loan-6.41% interest rate If Parent Loan denied student may receive unsubsidized loan increase. Stafford Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans are divided into two semesters. Some students transfer into four year institutions during the spring semester. Therefore, if the fall portion was not utilized, the student should accept the full Subsidized Loan first.
