Switzerland

Landscape of Switzerland  Switzerland is made up of mostly mountains with a high plain in the middle of the country.  This plain accounts for almost all of the large cities in Switzerland including Geneva, Bern, and Zurich.  The name of the mountain range that runs through Switzerland is the Alps.

Switzerland’s Population  Switzerland has many different ethnic groups and religions.  The country has four different national languages. German, French, Italian, and Romansch  Most Swiss Speak German

Switzerland’s Economy  The economy of Switzerland is very powerful. Switzerland is known as the economic powerhouse of the entire continent of Europe.  Switzerland is the home to many international banks and money lending institutions.  Other organizations such as the Red Cross also have their headquarters in Switzerland.

Swiss Tourism  Tourism in Switzerland is a large part of their economy.  Switzerland is in the middle of Europe, so it offers access from many different directions.  The Swiss Alps are one of the top tourist destinations in Europe.  Global warming is having an effect on the skiing industry inn Switzerland.

Neutrality  Switzerland has managed to stay neutral throughout several wars.  Switzerland was neutral through both of the World Wars  A scandal involving Nazi money and Swiss Banks came to light in the recent past.

Neutral Switzerland  The main reasons behind the neutrality of Switzerland lies within their borders.  Many different ethnic groups live within the boundaries of the country. This means they would have a very difficult time choosing sides in a war.  Therefore Switzerland remains neutral in all conflicts, both on and off of the European continent.
