  Maycomb, Alabama Setting:

  Jem and Scout and their friend Dill are obsessed with the Radley house where Boo, the boogey man lives.  Jem and Scout pass by the Radley’s house everyday on the way school and begin to find items stuck inside of a tree.  During a fire on a winter night, Scout is standing outside and finds out that Boo put a blanket around her.  At school, Jem and Scout receive rude comments from classmates because their father, Atticus, is defending a black man. Summary/Overview:

  One Sunday, Jem and Scout go to church with their housekeeper where they are very welcomed.  Jem and Scout find out the reason why Tom Robinson is being tried.  Scout, Jem and Dill watch the trial in secret from the balcony.  Despite evidence of innocence, the jury convicts Tom. Summary/Overview:

  Later on, Tom Robinson is killed when trying to escape.  After the trial, Bob Ewell plans revenge.  Ewell attacks Jem and Scout one night but they are saved by a mystery man.  When Scout returns home she realizes the mystery man was Boo.  The town sheriff tells Atticus that Bob Ewell died.  Scout befriends Boo.
